Sabastien Vahid is Happy Valley's 2018 National Geographic Bee Champion

Sabastien Vahid, 5th grade, won the Happy Valley National Geographic Bee for 2018. There were 22 student qualifiers from the 4th and 5th grade classes who advanced from the preliminary test to be invited to participate in the Bee. The Bee was held Friday, December 14, 2017 in the cafeteria. There were five other participants who made it into the final round; Miles Gifford, Marcus McConaughy, Celia Stanton, Bella Connell, and Bea Larsen. Marcus and Sabastien were in the championship round when Sabastien prevailed by answering the final question correctly.

The Bee has taken place for 20 years at Happy Valley. All 4th and 5th graders take a written geography test in their class to qualify to become a finalist for the Bee. The Geography Bee is a national competition sponsored by the National Geographic Society to encourage the study and increase knowledge of geography.

Congrats to everyone who participated!
