The Happy Valley Musical is coming, and we need YOU!

The only way to pull off a musical is with the support of our Happy Valley community. We need designers, shoppers, organizers, builders, helpers, and more!  This year, we will need the most support in our SET and SCENERY, as well as our THEATER TECHNOLOGY.  This is entirely student created, but we need lots of grown-ups and family members to help us in the process.  All families are welcome to join the fun, regardless of their student’s grade level!

About the Musical

Young, rambunctious Dot longs for an adventure exploring everything the country has to offer. When she finds herself lost and afraid in the darkening Australian bush, Dot befriends a wise mother Kangaroo who enlists the help of Australia’s favourite bush creatures to help Dot find her way back home. A charming tale full of quirky Aussie-native characters, Dot and the Kangaroo JR transforms the endearing story that transfixed generations past into a fresh, new adventure for generations to come.

Parents, family, and friends are invited to attend dress rehearsals, day performances, or evening performances. The students benefit from audiences at all shows (the evening shows fill up fast, so consider a day show if your schedule allows)!  Tickets are free, but required for each performance.

🎵Volunteers are essential!

There are still lots of volunteer opportunities available. We need day-of helpers for all shows including make-up and costume assistants and back-stage helpers. We also need ticket takers for Thursday night and a volunteer to run the video livestream for Cast A Monday night (we can help you figure out the logistics). See details and sign up here

Volunteer to Support the Musical!

Winter/Spring 2025

Lots of volunteers are needed to help bring the 2025 musical to the stage. There are many roles that can be done at home, in the evening, or at school. View the needs here and sign up!

Things to know!

The musical's website: happyvalleymusicroom.blogspot.com will have all the information you will need.  Show dates and times, cast and crew lists, rehearsal calendars, costume information, ways to help out, and so much more.

How students joined the cast: Auditions!

Auditions are held during music class the first and second weeks of December.  Students are asked to do an acting audition (scripts provided) and a singing audition if they’d like to be considered for a signing role. Students may choose to sing something as simple as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or a full Broadway song.  They may audition solo or in a small group.

How students joined the crew: By Applying!

Students must provide Mrs. Tully with a letter of interest which should include what job they would like (jobs will be listed on the website as well as in each classroom), and why they are the right fit for that job!

All students who choose not to audition or apply will get to be part of the chorus.  All students will learn the part of the chorus during music class. There will be two full sets of Cast and Crew for two full sets of performances. All students in Cast and Crew A will perform as the chorus for the Cast B performance and vice versa. Third graders will also be a part of the chorus.

Costumes will be designed by a parent volunteer group. Families are encouraged to provide costuming, but the costume committee will also be helping, especially with group costumes.

All rehearsals will take place during the regular school day, with the exception of three Thursday afternoons.  These will take place on January 30th, February 13th, and March 20th.  They will run from 12:20-3:00.

Third graders are all in the chorus for the show.  This will be our main focus during music classes from the months of January, February, and March!  As chorus members, they will have some sort of optional costume theme they will be able to wear for the shows, which will be decided as we get further into the rehearsal process. (Don’t worry!  We will make it really easy!)

Mark your calendar for the shows!
